D&K Origin
It all started with Vernon Dietz & Jim Kinkead in a small garage print shop in Boulder, Colorado, in August of 1964. Since then we have moved out of the garage and built a sterling reputation for our quality printing, unmatched customer service, and sustainable practices.
As a local, family-owned business, D&K has the opportunity to give projects the attention they deserve in a competitive marketplace.

D&K Green
We’ve made a conscientious effort to consider our environment in everything we do, from our sustainable practices to our environmental certifications. For us, being green isn’t just talk—it’s an ongoing commitment.
-
→ Paper has an outsize impact on a print project’s carbon footprint. We have extensive knowledge of eco-friendly papers, from post-consumer recycled papers to alternative fiber options. We’ll share our expertise and help you select papers that are appropriate for your project.
-
→ For more than two decades, we’ve used low-VOC (volatile organic compound), high-BRC (bio-renewable content), bio-based inks. In 2019, we partnered with Living Ink Technologies to produce the first-ever offset printed piece using algae-based ink. Algae Black reduces carbon emissions by 200% compared to conventional carbon black ink.
-
→ One of the most valuable and overlooked aspects of green printing is designing for press efficiency. We can help you find formats for your design that minimize waste and maximize efficiency—saving money and environmental resources.
-
→ We are certified by the Forest Stewardship Council® and Rainforest Alliance®.
→ We are certified by the City of Boulder’s Partners for a Clean Environment (PACE) program for Waste Diversion.
-
→ We divert more than 90% of our waste (+522,000 pounds per year) from the landfill through composting and recycling.
-
→ As an option for our clients, we have partnered with PrintReleaf, an organization that calculates the forest impact of your project’s paper consumption and plants an equivalent number of trees in certified forestry projects around the world.
